Farmer in Training: Session 4 Full Day

08/13/2018 08:30 AM - 08/17/2018 04:30 PM ET

Description

Explore the entirety of the farm from the chickens to the orchard, the fields to the greenhouses. Delicious farm inspired snacks provided daily. In the full day version of our Farmer in Training program, delve deeper into farm life and broaden your skills and understanding of what it means to be a farmer in 2018. Spend more time in the field planting, weeding and harvesting, play games and cook up some tasty delights in our Barn kitchen. Mornings are described as above while in the afternoons we will welcome a local chef, local artist, or other artisans as we learn new skills that are founded in nature and celebrate the beauty and bounty of the farm.

Session 4:  Journey through time as we examine the many ways the land, now known as Newton Community Farm, may have been used. Learn about foraging, and how Native American communities such as the Wampanoag would have worked with the land. Experience some of their foods, culture, traditions, games, tools and crafts before taking a glimpse into the last 300 years, imagining life as a new settler or immigrant working the soil in their own unique ways.... horses and all! Bring lunch each day.
